A South African librarian prepares for the return of the remains of his brother who died in exile.

Policarpo is a chauvinistic patriot, a major who tries to find solutions for Brazilian problems using only the resources of his own country. His visionary and idealistic temperament is behind his strange ideas about how to build a great nation.

Algeria, 1956. Plunged into a war that does not speak its name, a young peasant girl becomes, in spite of herself, a maquis. But during an attack, she is captured by a group of commandos who take her to a forbidden interrogation site, where she is locked up with a former French Resistance fighter.

Returning to the island that her father left 50 years earlier, the filmmaker goes back in time to retrace the history of her name.
