Arvid falls in love with cabaret singer Lussie and, much to his mother's dismay, marries this adventurous woman. Soon after the wedding, Lussie begins an affair with Russian lieutenant Arnold, which ultimately leads to tragic events.

Much to the sorrow of Kaj's mother, the engineer's son marries the beautiful but frivolous Doris instead of his serious foster sister Leonore.
