The story of a broken up family in which the father and the oldest son live in Europe while the mother and the younger son live in Egypt. The older brother decides to travel back to Egypt to know his family better.
The film is set in the span of eight hours in the region of downtown Cairo, exploring the variety of characters present in the busy town, and several problems they face in their daily lives, in addition to the economical crisis the whole country is facing.
The events of the series revolve around journalist Hend Allam, whose husband, a famous nuclear scientist, is assassinated by a terrorist group. Hend then tries to discover the truth behind her husband’s murder, which exposes her to danger from these groups.
The film deals, in a historical context, with the stories of a number of Al-Azhar sheikhs who held its pulpit, what Al-Azhar was exposed to during the British occupation period, and how it confronted the attempt to control its sovereign decisions.
